Overview

  • Purpose: To support students from Sub-Saharan Africa who face financial and other barriers to accessing postgraduate education.
  • Host: University College London (UCL).
  • Coverage: Full tuition, living expenses, airfare, and additional costs.

Scholarship Benefits

The UCL Bartlett Promise Scholarship offers:

  1. Financial Support:
    • Full overseas tuition fees.
    • Annual living allowance of £16,008.
    • Additional financial aid for:
      • Flight to and from the UK.
      • UK study visa costs.
      • English language assessment costs.
      • Health test costs.
      • NHS Immigration Health Supplement charge.
  2. Fee Waivers:
    • 100 Master’s application fee waivers worth £90 each (first-come, first-served).
  3. Support Services:
    • Ongoing academic and career support during studies.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, applicants must:

  1. Be a national and resident of an approved Sub-Saharan African country.
  2. Not hold British or dual British citizenship.
  3. Not have previously received funding for a master’s or equivalent qualification outside Sub-Saharan Africa.
  4. Have a conditional or unconditional offer for a Bartlett Master’s course by March 28, 2025.
  5. Be in financial need, as assessed by UCL.

Duration

The scholarship covers the normal duration of the chosen master’s program at UCL.

Application Timeline

  1. Master’s Applications Open: October 17, 2024.
  2. Scholarship Applications Open: February 14, 2025.
  3. Scholarship Deadline: March 28, 2025, at 23:45 BST.
  4. Scholarship Results: Within six weeks of application completion (depending on volume).

Application Process

  1. Apply for admission to a Bartlett Master’s course.
  2. Once you have an offer, apply for The Bartlett Promise Scholarship via the provided application form (available from February 14, 2025).
  3. Submit all required documents, including academic transcripts and references, by March 28, 2025.
  4. UCL assesses applications in collaboration with the Windsor Fellowship.

Additional Information

  • It may take 3-4 months to receive a response due to high application volumes.
  • Early application is highly recommended for both the Master’s course and the scholarship.
