TechWomen Program for Emerging Leaders

Brief Overview

  • The TechWomen Program empowers and supports emerging women leaders in STEM by providing mentorship and career advancement opportunities. Participants gain skills, insights, and networks to become community role models for women and girls in STEM.

Details of the Training

  • Duration: Five-week mentorship and professional training program.
  • Location: Leading companies in the San Francisco Bay Area or Chicago.
  • Activities: Includes project-based mentorship, professional development workshops, and networking events.
  • Concluding Events: Travel to Washington, D.C., for meetings and special events.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the TechWomen Program, applicants must:

  • Be women with at least two years of full-time professional experience in STEM (internships and unpaid work are not counted).
  • Hold at least a bachelor’s degree or four-year equivalent university degree.
  • Have proficiency in English (both written and spoken).
  • Be citizens and permanent residents of one of the eligible countries: Algeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Zimbabwe, or Yemen.
  • Be eligible to obtain a U.S. J-1 exchange visitor visa.
  • Not have applied for a U.S. immigrant visa (except for the Diversity Visa) in the last five years.
  • Not be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Fellowship Values

The TechWomen Program covers the following:

  • International Travel: Roundtrip airfare from the participant’s home country to the U.S.
  • Domestic Travel: Flights within the U.S. from San Francisco/Chicago to Washington, D.C.
  • Accommodation: Housing in San Francisco, Sunnyvale, Emeryville, or Chicago during the mentorship period.
  • Meals and Incidentals: Provided during the program.
  • Hotel Stay in D.C.: Accommodation in Washington, D.C., for concluding events.
  • Local Transportation: Public transportation to host companies and program events in the Bay Area, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.
  • Note: Costs for independent sightseeing or non-program-related travel are not covered.

Housing

  • Participants will stay in shared apartments, with private bedrooms and shared living spaces, in either San Francisco, Sunnyvale, Emeryville, or Chicago, depending on host company location.
