MAURITIUS – AFRICA SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME 2025

Brief Overview:
The Government of Mauritius offers scholarships to deserving students who are citizens of member states of the African Union or African Commonwealth countries. This scholarship is available for full-time, on-campus studies at public Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Mauritius for undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
Details of the Scholarship:
- Open to African Union or African Commonwealth countries’ citizens.
- Covers diploma, undergraduate, MPhil, MPhil/PhD, and PhD programs.
- Includes tuition fees, return airfare, and living expenses.
- Studies must be full-time and on-campus.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Nationality: Must be a resident citizen of African Union or African Commonwealth countries. Mauritian nationals are not eligible.
- Age:
- Undergraduate: Must be between 18 and 26 years old by January 1, 2026.
- MPhil, MPhil/PhD, PhD: Must not have reached 40 years old by January 1, 2026.
- Educational Qualifications:
- Diploma Program: Minimum five (5) credits at School Certificate (S.C), General Certificate of Education (G.C.E) ‘O’ Level, or equivalent with English proficiency.
- Undergraduate Degree Program: Minimum of 21 points at GCE or HSC A-Level, or equivalent overall average of 60% or 12/20.
- MPhil, MPhil/PhD, PhD Programs: Must meet the HEI’s academic and research requirements.
- Restrictions:
- Not applicable for top-up degrees, foundation programs, part-time courses, or distance education.
Scholarship Value:
- Tuition Fees:
- For SADC countries: up to MUR 100,000
- For non-SADC countries: up to MUR 160,000
- Living Allowance: MUR 16,500 per month
- Airfare: Return airfare from country of origin to Mauritius.

How to Apply for the Scholarship:
- Apply to a Mauritian HEI: Submit an application for a full-time on-campus program at a public HEI in Mauritius and obtain either a conditional offer or proof of application.
- Submit the Scholarship Application:
- Complete the Mauritius-Africa Scholarship application form.
- Submit the form and required documents to the local Nominating Agency.
- Nominating Agency Submission:
- The Nominating Agency will shortlist and endorse up to 15 candidates before forwarding applications to Mauritius.
Maximum Scholarship Duration:
- Undergraduate Diploma: 3 years
- Undergraduate Degree: 4 years
- MPhil: 2 years + 6 months for thesis defence
- MPhil/PhD: 4 years + 6 months for thesis defence
- PhD: 3 years + 6 months for thesis defence
Deadline:
- Electronic Submission: 23 April 2025
- Hard Copy Submission: 30 April 2025
