The Obama Foundation Scholars Program at Columbia University is a full-time, residential fellowship designed for emerging leaders worldwide who have demonstrated a strong commitment to their community and field, seeking to expand their impact on a global level.

A one-year program offering advanced leadership training, exposure to new skills, and collaboration with a cohort of global leaders.
Scholars reside at Columbia University in New York City and engage in a full-time study program.
Eligibility Requirements
Emerging leaders who have significantly contributed to their field and are at a pivotal point in their careers.
Proven commitment to community service and leadership, with the intent to apply their enhanced skills to benefit their communities after the program.
Fluent in English (verbal, written, and spoken).
Ability to influence and contribute positively to their community’s future.
Demonstrated qualities of inclusivity, community focus, resilience, courage, imagination, integrity, and accountability.
Priority given to applicants who have not matriculated at Columbia University.
Full-time, residential commitment to the fellowship (cannot be undertaken with another degree program).
Fellowship Values
Monthly stipend for living expenses in New York City.
Furnished studio apartment within walking distance of Columbia University.
Tuition and fees for up to four courses at Columbia University.
Basic medical, dental, and life insurance during the program.
Round-trip air travel to and from the home country and for any program-related activities.
Required Documents
Completed online application form: Must be submitted by the deadline.
Resume/Curriculum Vitae: Chronological record of employment, academic history, significant activities, awards, publications, and achievements.
Personal Video Statement: A video (up to three minutes) introducing the applicant and their work, uploaded to a video hosting service (e.g., YouTube or Vimeo) and linked in the application.
Responses to Short Essay Questions: Addressing the applicant’s work, motivation, and how the program fits their career trajectory.
Proof of English Proficiency: Required if English is not the applicant’s native language. Accepted exams include:
TOEFL (iBT: minimum 100, PBT: minimum 600)
IELTS (minimum 7.0)
PTE Academic (minimum 68)
Duolingo English Test (minimum 120, or 75 for tests before July 2019)
Two Letters of Recommendation: From individuals familiar with the applicant’s work in an academic, professional, or community setting, addressing suitability for the fellowship.
