Postgraduate and Master’s degrees, and in exceptional cases, Doctoral degrees in Germany

DAAD promotes postgraduate education for professionals from developing and newly industrialized countries to aid in sustainable development and poverty reduction. This scholarship supports individuals with at least two years of work experience in pursuing higher education in Germany.

Duration: 12 to 42 months, depending on the program
Eligibility Requirements
Minimum of two years of relevant professional experience
Bachelor’s degree (usually a four-year program) in a relevant field
Development-related motivation and commitment to take on social responsibility and drive change post-scholarship
Language proficiency (requirements vary by program):
English-taught programs: IELTS (minimum 6) or TOEFL (550 paper-based, 213 computer-based, or 80 internet-based)
German-taught programs: DSH 2 or TestDaF 4 (B1 level at application time)
Scholarship Values
Monthly payments of:
€934 for Master’s students
€1,300 for Doctoral candidates
Health, accident, and personal liability insurance coverage
Travel allowance, if not covered by other sources
Possible additional benefits:
Monthly rent subsidy
Family allowance for accompanying members

How to Apply for the Scholarship
Applications are submitted directly to the respective university offering the selected postgraduate course.
Application materials should be in English or German.
For applicants to multiple courses (up to 3), one motivation letter should explain the choice and priority of each course.
