ESOP provides scholarships, mentorship, and networking opportunities via the ETH Foundation. It fully covers study and living costs for the Master’s degree.

Application is through eApply, including for ETH Bachelor students moving to a Master’s program.
Eligibility Requirements
Achieve a top result in Bachelor’s program (top 10%, grade A)
Provide a reachable phone number on CV for potential interview in February
Ineligible if already enrolled in a Master’s program at ETH Zurich or if holding a Master’s degree
Scholarship Values
CHF 12,000 per semester for living and study expenses
Tuition fee waiver
Duration: Regular length of the Master’s program (3-4 semesters)
Required Documents
Standard Master’s admission documents
Self-developed pre-proposal for the Master’s thesis (must adhere to scientific citation standards)
Two reference letters (if program does not require references)
How to Apply for the Scholarship
Apply online via eApply during the first application window.
Bachelor students from ETH applying for a Master’s program must use eApply for both ESOP and program applications.

FAQs
Duration of ESOP
Scholarship lasts for the standard duration of the chosen Master’s program.
Grant Payment
Paid out in 3 or 4 instalments, one per semester, to a Swiss bank or post office account.
Program-Specific Rules
Not transferable to another program.
Suspended during exchange semesters but tuition waiver continues.
Continues during Master’s thesis at another university if within standard program duration.
Suspended during compulsory internships over 10 weeks but resumes upon return.
Employment and Internships
ESOP allows assistantships if studies are not compromised; extended studies due to assistantships require self-funding.
Voluntary internships are permissible with the choice to suspend grant payments; ESOP does not cover extended studies due to internships.
