2025 Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in FilmMemory in Europe

Brief Overview

FilmMemory is an interdisciplinary Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s program that trains students in audiovisual heritage, archival studies, and cultural studies. Open to students worldwide, the program aims to provide practical, critical, and theoretical insights into audiovisual media and film memory. It is a two-year program requiring physical mobility across multiple European universities and offers Erasmus+ scholarships to the best-ranked applicants.

Study Countries

  • For each edition, around twenty-four students from all around the world are accepted. These students will follow a mobility track from Belgium to Portugal, via Ireland and Estonia.

Detail of the Scholarships

  • Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM) Scholarship:
    • Full coverage of tuition fees (€10,000 for 4 semesters).
    • Monthly subsistence allowance of €1,400 for up to 24 months.
    • Contribution to travel and visa costs.
    • Health and accident insurance included.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree (at least EQF Level 6) in audiovisual arts, film studies, communication studies, arts, history, cultural studies, or related fields (e.g., archival studies, heritage studies).
  • English language proficiency at a B2 level or higher (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.).
  • Candidates currently completing their degree must provide proof of completion by the time of enrollment.

Scholarship Values

  • Full participation costs waiver: €10,000.
  • Monthly subsistence allowance: €1,400 for 24 months.
  • Travel and visa costs covered for Erasmus+ scholarship holders.

Required Documents

  1. Completed application form.
  2. Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree certificates (with transcripts). Certified translations required if not in English.
  3. English proficiency certificate (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo) if the degree was not taught in English.
  4. Personal motivation letter (1000 characters max).
  5. Curriculum Vitae (CV) in Europass format.
  6. Preliminary graduation project proposal (500 words).
  7. Selection assignment: Choose between a critical written essay (1200 words), a critical audiovisual essay, or a film-based data analytics assignment.
  8. Two recommendation letters.
  9. Certified copy of passport or ID.
  10. Residence certificate (if applicable).
  11. Digital portfolio showcasing prior work.
  12. Recent photo (high-definition, white background).
